It has been a nice week with Kyle back. He got home Monday night and the kids were over joyed to see him. The best part was he only had to go into work Tuesday and Wednesday after he got back. Thursday and Friday were PACAF days where we got a 4 day weekend to celebrate Veterans Day. The funny thing is we just layed around th house and did nothing during those 4 days.
Abby still have preschool since she goes to a Japanese school (she now goes through lunch twice a week and I send her with rice in her little bento box. She thinks it's pretty cool just cause it has Frozen characters all over it), and I had my CPR renewal course. Yoko San watched the kids Thursday morning like always, so Kyle and I went for a day date to Phada's Thai restaurant- quite possibly the best Thai food we have ever had! We also got together with our friends, the Drehers, for some good socializing and card games. Mike has been deployed these past few months so it was nice to catch up with him and all be together again. Let the good times roll.
So much for budgeting and saving for our Hawaii trip! We finally threw in the towel Saturday and got Popeyes for lunch and Anthony's pizza for dinner. We have been trying to save up our "dining out" trips for when we are in Hawaii... But we just got so lazy we caved. I like to look at it with this perspective: eating out is a family event. I don't have to slave cooking a meal and can therefore spend more time with Kyle and the kids. So in reality, we were just strengthening our family ties :). I'm sure there will be a lot more of dinning out come time for Hawaii. Oh how I want some chick fil-a, and a good mahi mahi burger! We are so excited for this trip!
This weekend another terrorist attack occurred, this time in Paris France. There still isn't an exact number of deaths yet, but what they do know is that it was an organized attack throughout the city at various locations. My mind has been racing with thoughts and prayers for the people in Paris suffering, and thoughts of fear for what my children will have to endure. Will it get to the point where they are not safe to even leave their house? Where will the line be drawn? What must happen to assure peace for future generations?
Being a military spouse this war against terrorism affects me and my family personally. My husband will be in harms way to help save freedom not just for America, but for the future generations to come. There will be sleepless nights when he is away with me worried about his safety. He will see things so horrific that they make even a grown man cry. Our family will be apart and separated for months on end where when reunited we will have to rebuild a family unit over the emotional scars we have all had to endure during the separation.
Now the question is, for what? For a better future. For hope. For peace. So that attacks like 9/11 and now this attack on France never have to be a worry or concern for our children. So they can sleep in peace at night when they lay down their heads. That is why we do what we do. It's a hard life, and one that unfortunately most Americans don't comprehend. The sacrifices we go through for ALL to have freedom is no small feet, but sure is worth it. To know we have provided our children with the ultimate gift of freedom, that is freedom without fear, makes all these trials we endure in the military worth while. May we get rid of the darkness and hatred in this world and replace it with hope and light. God bless the USA, and God bless France during this time of hurt.
