Well we knew this day would come, but now that it has I don't know how to help ease Abby's broken heart. Her best friend, and boyfriend, Asher, moved away this week. I have been trying to prep her about this since she asks to play with Asher every.single.day.
She drew him a picture and we were able to drop it off to him the day before he left to say our goodbyes. It was another hard goodbye as we have really loved the Brown family. They are moving to New Mexico where he will be an F16 instructor pilot. Still Abby asks about Asher all the time, and she has only cried once so far when I told her she can't go play with him cause he is gone. We will see how this relationship works long distance, but for now I am trying to distract her with boyfriend substitutes :)
We finally made it to the weekend, a nice long weekend to boot! After we had to clean the church on Saurday morning we decided to take the kids to Nanbu to go strawberry picking. The kids and I went last year when Kyle was gone to Alaska, so it was fun to go again, this time with him. Hopefully we can make it back to Nanbu for cherry and peach season as well!
So basically how it works is you pay ¥1,500 for 45 minutes of all you can pick/eat strawberries. The kids LOVED it, and when I say kids I am including Kyle :). We all ate till our stomachs hurt, then we even picked some to take home! The strawberries here are so good. They remind me of the strawberries we had in our backyard in Washigron growing up. They were so sweet and full of flavor, much tastier than the "California strawberries" you can buy in the store. If the strawberries are this good, I can't wait for cherry season to come so we can eat ourselves sick of cherries.
Afterwards the kids wanted to play on the giant dragon tower. Of course Abby was all talk and no walk. She wouldn't even make it up to the first level without getting scared. I think she has a big phobia of heights. Connor, on the other hand, is mr dare devil. He was climbing all the way to the top giving me a heart attack. That evil knevil made Kyle and myself chase after him all the way to the top tier. The kids were so tired that they passed out in the car on our way back home. So I will take that as a sign that it was a fun filled day.
Sunday arrived and my two little minions were so great in the morning that we had plenty of time after getting ready for church to jump on the trampoline for a little bit (got to get those wiggles out before church somehow) and call gma and gpa Benham. They love talking to both sets of grandparents, but tend to fight over who gets to hold the phone. Hopefully we will get some more family time in this summer as we are hoping to make it back to the states come August.
Doug and Taylor are engaged! It sounds so crazy saying Doug, my youngest brother, is getting married. Taylor is super sweet and we are excited to have her join the family. They are getting married on August 6th in the Salt Lake Temple. So that's the main reason we are going to try to make it back to the states. It's going to be tricky since the runway up here in Misawa will be closed for repairs, making the kids and myself travel by train down to Yokota AB (again) in hopes we catch any flight to America. It's also "peak PCS" season meaning lots of people move in the summer and get priority over us on flights and available seats. Here to hoping it all works out and we make it back for the wedding, some family time, and some good old delicious American food!!!!!
