We took a big trip to the commissary and loaded up the fridge and pantry. We finally have food!!! The first item we broke into was the Nutella. We learned vey quickly that Abby LOVES Nutella, but then again who doesn't? The nice thing about our house is that it is pretty easy to "fill" with food cause the fridge and pantry are tiny here! We are getting really creative as to where to put food in our home. Maybe this will help us to buy only what we need on a weekly basis. I can't wait for our furniture and house items to arrive cause If we are having a hard time making food fit in the tiny pantry, it's going to be the biggest jigsaw puzzle yet to make all our furniture fit in these tiny rooms!
On Wednesday our unaccompanied baggage came! Now remember how I said it's not about things but family? This is true, but having a little "stuff" sure makes life easier 😊. Wednesday was one of the happiest days of my life because this shipment had our clothes, toys, and cooking gear. I was happiest to see clothes. We have been living out of suit cases for a month now and I sure have been getting tired of rotating the same 6 shirts. Abby was excited for her toys, and Connor got to sit in his beloved bumbo chair again.
For the next day it was staying in pjs, boxes, laundry, and organizing for me and the kids while Kyle went off to work. They have been giving him lots of tasks to do since we got here, especially since they have been running mock war drills/exercises. One of his favorite jobs at the squadron is helping out with the snack bar. Let's face it, Kyle, the king of all snaking, was meant to be a "snack-o."
Ten loads of laundry later, and a bunch of empty boxes lying around, we were finally done sorting through our 900 lbs of fast shipment. We turned the closet under the stairs into a little toy/play closet for the kids. Now Abby and Connor can truly say they know how it feels to be like Harry Potter.
To help pass the time the kids and I like to have indoor picnics on the kitchen floor cause it's WAY too cold to have any sort of a picnic outside. They think this is so silly and even Sandy gets in on the fun every now and then. Speaking of weather, it has been very peculiar here. One day its a windy blizzard, then the next it is sunny and clear. Thankfully the snow hasn't been sticking so we haven't had the need to shovel our walkway and parking spots.
To wrap up this week we decided to visit Homac which is kind of like a Walmart and Lowes combo store here in Japan. Everything from goldfish, to plywood, to gardening stuff this store has it all! It's a fun store to just peruse and waste time in cause it's just so random. Afterwards we went to a ramen restaurant for dinner with some friends. Ramen here is nothing like the packs you can get back in the states for 50 cents and is a staple in most starving college students diets. No, ramen here is delicious!!! We got the opportunity to sit on the ground and eat with chopsticks in a traditional Japanese manner. The Japanese culture is very respectful. Shoes are not allowed in these eating rooms, and rubbing chop sticks together or sticking them straight up in your bowl of rice or ramen is a big no no. But, a way to show compliments to the chef is to slurp your ramen, so we were slurping away during our whole meal. We were enjoying the experience so much, but like everything all good things must come to an end. Our two alarm clocks, aka Abby and Connor, made it clear that it was time to leave. We will definitely be back for some more yummy ramen. Weekends are always my favorite cause that is usually when we get the chance to go out and explore.
