The weekend after we return from the states there of course was an air show. It's the annual air show at Misawa and attracts Japanese visitors from all over the country. Since this is our last year, and Kyle is not a little Lieutenant anymore, We didn't have to help too much at our squadron booth like we did the years prior. Kyle and I did take turns though volunteering a shift to help sell panther merchandise to raise money for our squadron activities. The day started off cold and wet... really wet! It was pouring all morning, but by 10 it was as if the clouds parted and nothing but blue skies and sunshine came pouring out. The kids had a blast seeing all the different planes and of course getting to see Eldredge, our squadron panther mascot. We ate Yakisoba and walked around for a bit checking out the other venders and enjoying the air show. Since the demo pilot is our good friend and in our squadron we made sure to watch his performance for support and to give some big "OOOOs and AAAHHHs" so the crowd knew to follow hahaha. It was fun, and it was also funny watching the Japanese people scurry from booth to booth all while trying to watch the air show. Lets just say people were bumping into one another left and right.
It was all fun and games till they brought out the first Japanese F35 jet. Everyone rushed over to see it, but it was barricaded off. Even Kyle was like a little boy in a candy shop when they brought out the new jet. I know it is his hope and dream to fly the new F35. We just found out our friend Matt "Nike" Harris from our squadron will be switching for the F16 to the F35. Up to this point we didn't think they were allowing pilots to switch jets, but the F35 program has been on the rise and they are looking for young yet experienced pilots that are ranked at the top of the VML. All the qualifications they are looking for right now fit Kyle to a T, but we still will have to wait and see what our next assignment is. It's practically all we think about now that we will find out when and where we will be going in the next month or two. We love the F16, but boy would it be amazing if Kyle could switch over to the 35!
After some time of Starring at the jet and walking all the way around it to get a closer look at every angle, I was able to pry Kyle away for us to enjoy the rest of the day. We only stayed till about 3, then it was time to head back home so I could catch up on all my cleaning and laundry from our trip. No rest for the weary, hi ho, hi ho, it's off to work I go!
